The Montana Cowboy Book
The Montana Cowboy tells the story of those mixed-luck, big-hearted folks who have been galloping along the ranges and the ridges, pushing cattle around Montana for over a hundred years. The photography of David Stoecklein brings them into focus as they are today, squinting from beneath lowered hat brims at the sunset of one century, and turning resolutely in the saddle-or, perhaps, in the cab of a combine-to face the next.
Montana native Patrick Dawson has eloquently pulled together a mix of written and oral histories to reveal the state's diversity-in land, in people, and in culture-as well as its overriding spirit.
As always, however, a picture is worth a thousand words, and these photographs tell a rugged, windblown, heartfelt tale of the survival of the cattleman's way of life.
12x11" Hardbound, 276 pages.
