Before down jackets, cowboys had to keep warm with whatever was available. Buffalo and horse hides were very popular as winter coats. This photo of Jay Hoggan and Brett Reeder was taken in the high mountains of central Idaho. The photo was originally taken for my book Cowboy Gear.
